Since withdrawing from the architect's register, James no longer offers a full architectural service.

He does, however, act on an occasional basis as an artistic consultant for selected building projects 

where traditional appearance and lucid spatial organisation are of importance to the client.

This could include the reordering and extension of existing period buildings or the construction of

new buildings in a period context. 

 

Ideally, but not exclusively, projects would be situated within an hour's drive of Shrewsbury.

James still draws entirely by hand as he finds this the most natural way of exploring, developing 

and presenting his ideas.

 

​The services offered could include the following:

1. General advice on artistic, aesthetic, and period design issues.

2. Concept sketches and visualisations.

3. Limited site survey work where appropriate.

4. Assistance with period detailing and mouldings.

5. Selected detail drawings.

5. Presentation drawings as required.

All advice and drawings would be be supplied on the understanding:

1. That they are intended for visual and artistic purposes only.

2. That all technical and regulatory issues would be the responsibility of others.

In practice this means that a separate, appropriately qualified, architectural design team would be required to adopt, develop and take forward any concept ideas put forward by James,
