James now works as a self-employed architect concentrating on small to medium-sized domestic projects where there is a requirement for a traditional design approach coupled with a close attention to detail. He is one of a small group of architects who still draw entirely by hand as he finds this the most natural way of exploring and developing a design, starting with loose sketch proposals and culminating in precise construction details. Ideally, but not exclusively, projects are situated within an hour's drive of Shrewsbury.

The Services offered fall into four main stages, which can be adapted according to individual needs.

1. Sketch Design

Visiting site, discussing the client's needs and aspirations, and producing sketch proposals. Often a number of options will be investigated.

2. Planning

Developing drawings to the next level and applying for Planning and Listed Building Consent as required.

3. Detailed Design

Producing all necessary construction drawings, written schedules, and specifications to enable the design to be priced and built. Applying for Building Regulations permission and obtaining quotations  from contractors.

4. Construction

Administrating the contract between client and builder, carrying out regular progress inspections and dealing with queries from commencement on site to handover of the completed building.
